‘Gas is back in vogue’ as Trump embraces fossil fuels

With 80 new plants projected by 2030, this shift is driven by soaring AI-driven electricity demand and manufacturing growth. Kasliwal notes that gas, previously in decline, is now a key energy source. However, increased gas reliance raises concerns about decarbonization and supply pressures, challenging Trump’s ambitions for both domestic demand and LNG exports.

“Gas is back in vogue,” said Akshat Kasliwal, a power analyst at PA Consulting. “Gas-powered facilities for years were in the trenches and they faced an anaemic outlook, but that’s now all changing once again.”
