PA defence and security expert Martin Allard recently joined Folk och Försvar’s video podcast to discuss the need for emergency stockpiling in times of crisis or war.

There are different opinions on which tools would be the most effective for strengthening Sweden’s supply preparedness and how we should prepare for disruptions in supply chains that limit access to the goods we need in everyday life. As the threat of war grows, there is an emerging debate about how we should prepare for shortages. Is emergency stockpiling the right tool to use, or do we need to explore other ways to ensure that essential goods are available in times of crisis or war?

In this episode, the participants take a deep dive into the issue of emergency stockpiling and discuss how it works in three different sectors: food, fuel, and pharmaceuticals.

Panel members:

  • Martin Allard, Defence and security expert at PA Consulting and former Principal Secretary to the Government Inquiry on a New Food Supply Preparedness Strategy (inquiry N 2022:02, report SOU 2024:8)
  • David Sällh, Head of the Executive Committee at Trygghet Drivkraft Sverige
  • Klara Diskay, Head of the Supply Preparedness Unit at the National Board of Health and Welfare.

Programme host and moderator:

  • Lotta Lundmark, Programme Manager for Civil Defence and Crisis Preparedness at Folk och Försvar.

This was first broadcast in Folk och Försvar.
